Tok Sen, an ancient Thai healing practice, is believed to be over 5,000 years old. The technique involves a set of wooden tools, including a hammer and various chisel options, which are selected by the therapist based on their assessment of blockages in the body. These tools are used to enhance the therapy session, focusing on treating sore muscles, fascial restrictions, joint pain, pinched nerves, stiffness, and ailments related to specific sen lines.
In many Eastern healing traditions, the body is believed to follow energy lines or channels, each linked to specific functions and imbalances. Sen Lines form the foundational structure of Thai Medicine, acting as a map for practitioners trained to identify and release blockages. These blockages, when left unresolved, can lead to disease, discomfort, restricted mobility, and imbalances in the body, mind, or spirit.
A typical Tok Sen Massage session begins with deep compressions and acupressure to relax the muscles and nervous system. This also helps the therapist pinpoint areas of restriction. The therapist then uses rhythmic tapping with Tok Sen tools, targeting key Thai acupoints. The vibrations penetrate deeply through the muscles, reaching areas like connective tissue, bones, and joints. After addressing the blockages, the therapist may reassess with additional compressions and massage, finishing with stretching, tapotement, or traction.
Clients are draped with two sheets or may wear comfortable clothing during the session.
